A Bear with Three Rs

Description

For Christmas my boyfriend's parents got me a very nice hand sewing kit and several spools of thread. The reason behind my asking for this in the first place was in the interest of mending clothes. It had becoming very difficult as the sewing kit that I have coveted since I was eight years old or so has lost all of its needles (through breaking/bending/or just MIA) and the vast majority of its pins. I have since started going through all of our clothes for those that need tending to. Generally any clothes that we grow out of or don't want any more get donated to good will, but there were a few pairs of jeans and sweaters that were so far degraded that I wouldn't feel right passing them along. Holes in the bum and cuffs ripped up four or five inches can only get so much mending before no amount of repair can save it.

It seemed like a waste just to throw these clothes out though, so I started digging around for other uses. They do make for good rags from time to time, but I wanted to be more constructive. Digging around in the old sewing supplies I came across a pattern that I had printed some time ago but never got a chance to use. Long story short I had so much fun I was thinking about making more of these little guys. I was also trying to think of a physical item I could make. Digital art sometimes leave me wanting something to touch.

So along that train of though and the many bunny trails my brain goes off on, I really wanted to make more of an effort to donate to WWF [link] . I think their goals and work are something I would really like to help. I was trying to figure out if it was worth making recycle bears either from my own or maybe people would want their own well loved clothes to get a new life. The whole idea being proceeds going off to help the planet. (all of this is pending contacting the pattern designer when I track them down)

Thoughts? Comments?

Logistics:
Material - Denim:1/2 of a pant leg from 34' 32' mens jeans
Nose: Inside of one pocket from same jeans above
Eyes: Assorted buttons from original sewing kit (I think?)
Ribbon: Christmas gift from last year? Or year before? (Yeah I'm a little bit of a pack rat)
Hand sewn because I can

I would not recommend marking on material for sewing use. I did so just because denim doesn't bleed and I was working with a strange shaped piece of cloth and trying to find the most optimal use of it.

*I did not make the pattern for this bear. Working on tracking down exactly which free to use source I got this sucker from.*
